¨
Provide an outstanding education
that affords all children the opportunity to thrive
and excel.
Education is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. We
believe diverse, quality programming is essential to
address the needs and talents of all children in the
District. We also are committed to fostering
parental involvement and community partnerships to
further enhance educational opportunities. We
oppose efforts to reduce the District to one which
offers only a basic or adequate education. Such
cuts would short-change our students and jeopardize
local property values by reducing the desirability
of the District to new home buyers.
¨
Effective and efficient use of tax
dollars through systematic and regular
evaluation of programming, including resource
utilization and comprehensive goals and objectives.
School funding is not unlimited and
the School Board has a responsibility to be a good
steward of community tax dollars. We are committed
to the development of a process that promotes the
best use of your tax dollars. As a first step, it
is necessary to develop clear program goals and
objectives. Programs and spending must be
systematically and comprehensively evaluated on an
ongoing basis to ensure the District is attaining
program goals and objectives efficiently and
effectively.
¨
Increase Board and District
communication by emphasizing outreach and
interaction with parents and the community at-large.
We
believe it is the District’s responsibility to keep
parents and the community well-informed about
District business. We are committed to the
development and implementation of a comprehensive
communications plan for the District. The plan must
promote: 1) the prompt and full dissemination of
information, 2) transparency in processes, and 3) a
wide range of opportunities for community feedback
and involvement.
¨
Complete the new Harriton and Lower
Merion High Schools expeditiously to
minimize cost and provide all children in the
District with the opportunity to be educated in
buildings that fully facilitate learning.
Our
children deserve to attend high schools that comply
with safety, health, and accessibility regulations
and that promote a productive learning environment
in all areas of programming. We will ensure that
the new high schools will be completed as
expeditiously as possible. Further delay is costly,
wasteful, and dangerous. |
